July 27, 2008 - Galway to Dublin

Tea and cookies in our hotel room

Packed and off to the train station

Waiting in line to board the train for Dublin

On the train

Mother and her two daughters sat across from us on the train

Checked into our hotel room and headed to Trinity College to view The Book of Kells. The Book of Kells contains a lavishly decorated copy, in Latin, of the four gospels. It has long been associated with St Colum Cille (c 521-597) who founded his principal monastery on the island of Iona, off the west coast of Scotland, in about 561. The Book of Kells was probably produced early in the 9th century by the monks of Iona, working wholly or partially at Iona itself or at Kells, county Meath, where they moved after 806 AD, when Iona was attacked by the Vikings in a raid which left sixty-eight monks dead. The Book of Kells was sent to Dublin around 1653 for reasons of security during the Cromwellian period. Photos taken around Trinity College.

Took a walk down Grafton Street

Stopped for dinner at Bewley's

There are some pretty familiar looking places in these pictures. I think the pics where Mom is laying her head on Dad's shoulder are too stinkin' cute!
